Hello everyone just found a new job driving a commercial vehicle for a reputable company. I went and filled out paperwork today for background check etc. They went on ahead and took me into town to my pre-employment drug screen. I had to setup an appointment with my family for a DOT physical to obtain my medical card. My appointment is in the morning. I keep hearing horror stories about getting the ''finger'' and having to go through a bunch of embarrassing stuff in the doctors office. Then I'm also seeing other people who say '' oh no big deal you'll just have to turn you head and cough''. So my question is, exactly what will my doctor do at my DOT physical and what all with they look/test for?? Will have to have to take another drug screen to obtain the medical card too?? If so its' not a big deal, I'm more concerned about ''getting the finger'' Any and all responses are appreciated. Thanks

PS. I live in Texas but my doctor is located in Oklahoma, I don't know if this matters but just to let you know. Thanks

I was about to say the same a contributor "Butch" You are not going for an army physical. They may do the hernia thing just for there own peace of mind. They don't want to hire somebody that will just turn around and claim a medical leave! There is no reason put a finger up your back side. This a test for enlarged prostrate and you will not have to concern yourself with that until you are 60 or older.

The hernia thing is just you turning your head so you don't cough on the doctor. He wants to feel your testicles rise. That's all. And it is quicker than it took me to write about it. Don't believe the "horror" stories, They are in fact just b.s.

Good luck on any other tests you may be required to take, like driving ability and driving laws, they are the ones to be concerned with, not the physical.

Your DOT physical will not involve the old "finger wave". And they're not going to check you for hernia or prostate issues. None of that is necessary for a DOT medical card.

Why do you worry? it is only a medical. so what if dr puts his finger, he is only checking, to make sure everything is ok.

he will check ur back, lungs, muscles in legs arms, heart rate, pulse, blood, possibly eyes, and hearing, so what r u worring about. Calm down, you need this work, so let dr do his work, ok.
